NewsTibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) Surgery is now available at Brookville Veterinary Hospital!
TTA Surgery is one of the surgical options to repair a ruptured cruciate ligament. The TTA surgery positions the patellar ligament perpendicular to the tibial plateau eliminating the force and relieving tensile load on the deficient cranial cruciate ligament. This reduction in force is achieved by moving a portion of the tibia forward and fixing it in place with several surgical implants. Pre- operative radiographs may be taken to facilitate sizing the implants. Post- operative radiographs are taken to evaluate surgical technique and implant positioning. Follow up radiographs may be taken at 6 weeks and 4 months post- operatively. A ruptured cruciate ligament destabilizes the knee joint so that weight bearing causes the femur to slide off the back side of the tibia resulting in pain, arthritis, and damage to other internal joint structures. Palpation of the knee joint elicits abnormal movement or instability,
which is typical for a rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament. This
ligament is one of two ligaments that pass through the knee joint
crossing each other as the main internal stabilizers of the knee. Surgical repair is usually necessary to prevent permanent arthritis, recurrent pain, and additional damage to the knee joint.
